Definitions
- All drinks: Average liters of pure alcohol consumed annually from legally and illegally produced alcohol, by the population above 14 years of age. The consumption of tourists is excluded for countries with more tourists per year than resident population.
- Beer: Average liters of pure alcohol consumed annually in the form of beer, by the population above 14 years of age.

Homemade and illegal drinks:
Average liters of pure alcohol consumed annually in the form of “unrecorded alcohol” by the population above 14 years of age. The consumption of tourists is excluded for countries with more tourists per year than resident population.
“Unrecorded alcohol” is not taxed and is outside of governmental control. It includes alcohol that is homemade (legally or illegally), smuggled or obtained through cross-border shopping. Data is collected through investigations and expert judgment. - Legal sources: Average liters of pure alcohol consumed annually in the form of “recorded alcohol” by the population above 14 years of age. The consumption of tourists is excluded for countries with more tourists per year than resident population. “Recorded alcohol” is taxed and within governmental control. It excludes alcohol that is homemade (legally or illegally), smuggled or obtained through cross-border shopping.
- Other alcoholic drinks: Average liters of pure alcohol consumed annually from beverages other than wine, beer and spirits, by the population above 14 years of age.
- Spirits: Average liters of pure alcohol consumed annually in the form of spirits, by population above 14 years of age (excludes illegally produced spirits).
- Wine: Average liters of pure alcohol consumed in the form of wine by population above 14 years of age.
